IMPORTANT FUNDRAISING TIPS - WE'RE NOT KIDDING!
There are 5 must do actions to give you the edge you need to acheive your fundraising goals
1. TIMING - You need to make sure that another group hasn't just finished or is about to start a similar program. Your community can be asked to give too much at times. Try and make sure that your sale is not the straw that breaks the camels back. In the Spring I like to start groups after the February break. March is an awesome time to fundraise because spring sports haven't started.
2. PARENT COMMUNICATION - It's very important for your parents to know what going on and why! Ask them to help out because the money is necessary for the success of their children's education and extra activities. I have had fundraisers start and the parents were surprised and confused. They didn't see the brochures that were in their child's backpack and it was over before they knew about it. Sometimes, teachers forget to hand it out to the kids for over a week. I always send home a Parent Letter with the name of the group, why they need the money, when the fundraiser starts and ends, who to make the check out to and what the incentives and prizes are.
3. KICKING OFF THE FUNDRAISER - Try and get the group together to pump them up and get them focused. Groups respond to a lively start to the sale and it helps get everyone on the same page. It's the best time to demonstrate the prizes if you are using them to drive the sale. A nice start like this will increase participation and increase sales.
4. HAVE A WELL PLANNED DELIVERY - 2 days before the delivery, send home an announcement about the coming delivery and the time. Parents are very busy and can forget the time to pick up their fundraising items. GET HELPERS! The more the merrier and it makes the job a lot easier for you. Make sure you have plenty of cell phones and start to call the late parents 1 hour before the end of the pick up time.
5. MAKING SURE THAT THE BROCHURE COMES OUT OF THE BACKPACK AT HOME AND ENDS UP ON THE KITCHEN TABLE - This is the most important part of the whole fundraiser. If the brochure doesn't make it home or out of the students backpack NO ONE will have a chance of becoming happily involved with the great products. Use prizes to get the sellers excited about earning a sweet little prize. Believe me, it works every time.
